Life in Connecticut: Our animals and trying to get rid of ticks.....

Last night was a long one with MiaBella. She was running a temp., headache and just didn't feel good. Her rash has spread over her face in parts but she is feeling much better today.  She has a nightgown that she calls her sick one.  She remembers being sick and throwing up wearing it so every time she is sick she wears it.  So silly! I am still scratching all over today but made sure I sprayed everyone before they went outside.  I found some tick repellent that is called Buzz Away Extreme that is Deet-free for us so I hope it works.

So today I went and got 4 more chickens and ordered 4 guineas. Jordan already named them.

Oreo

Pablo

freckles (because of his brown spot on his beak)

sweetpea

It's a good thing Jeff got the Chicken Coop done.  I finished painting it.  The chickens love it. The older ones.

Can I just say my husband rocks!!!  He did such a nice job.....  We still have to move it when our land if leveled.  It's a good thing he made it in two pieces because it's heavy.

The Quinea we call spaz because she is one..

Our chickens are getting so big.  Eat those ticks.

They love going for a ride.  Just a day in the country.
We told the kids when we moved that we would get them a big dog.

So we got this little guy Charlie a Golden Retriever.
Bella doesn't seem to mind him.

He is such a good boy!!

Well that's it for this week.  Working on our hobby farm one project at a time.....

Our Life in Connecticut

It's been awhile since I wrote in my blog so I thought I would update everyone about our life here in Connecticut.  We have been here a little over a month and I can't believe it.  Everyone has settled in and made friends.  We love our new Ward (church) and the people are really friendly.  We have also meet several of our neighbors even though we have 7 acres and we are spread apart.  Of course Jeff and I started working on the house.  We bought a bank owned and got a good deal but it needs a little work. I started working on the entry and everything needed done.  The floors and top of steps refinished, the walls painted, the ceiling painted the doors painted and the high risers on the stairs repainted. Here are a couple of pictures.
It doesn't  look that bad but you can't see all the scuff marks on the stairs and walls.  And of course there is no paint to match. It was also really yellow for my taste. I painted the white door black and the outside door as well.  It was a darkgreen that needed a good paint job.

I updated the fireplace.  I hate gold inserts.

I whitewashed the bricks painted inside with heatpaint, painted the bottom black, put in a new screen that I had from my last house and repainted the mantle.  I love it!!

Here is the guest bath.  I forgot to take before pictures but it had a little sink in it that looked like it came out of a school bathroom. So we ok Jeff put in a new sink and toilet, I painted the walls and trim.  It's so cute now..

Here is the ugly orange color the bathroom was.

I love my new little sink it's so cute.  I got it at Lowe's on clearance. Lucky me...
We have also been working on the outside.  We had some of our land cleared and we are waiting for the guys to level it off. But here are some pictures of it.
This is the front of the house before.

And this is after.  You can see our house now coming up the driveway.

This is the side of the house that had nothing.  Not even one plant. The kids worked really hard on this and collected all the rocks and we planted a few trees and shrubs.

This is our backyard before it was cleared.

And this is after.  We still need to get it leveled off. But we got about a football field cleared.
Well that's what we have gotten done this month.  Stay tuned for next month when hopefully the land will be finished. Jeff is almost done with the chicken coop and the deck should be finished.  Can't wait!!
